Doctors & Dieticians

Another week has flown by in Gascoigne class and this week we have been busy once again with literacy, numeracy and topic work.

In literacy the children finished their information text work as well as completing activities about standard and non standard English.
In numeracy we have moved from fractions to decimals, comparing & ordering numbers as well as continuing to work on times tables and multiples of 10 & 100.

The children have also studied parts of the human body this week, identifying their functions and locations. They have produced diagrams of the digestive system, labelled bones & muscles and been very inquisitive about our science topic in general.
We were also visited by Miss Wadlow's partner Danny who talked to the children about diabetes during which time they asked some excellent, relevant questions and showed great interest in the subject.

Songwriters & astronauts

It's been another busy week in Gascoigne class with lots of different activities taking place.
The children have been continuing playing ukuleles with Miss Flynn, learning Beat It, Marry You and also composing their own songs!!
In maths we have continued with fractions, apologies if the children become obsessed with fractions of pizza and cake!
To counter this unhealthy fraction food we have produced information texts in literacy about food groups & balanced diets. There were some really sensible questions asked & great discussions had in class.
This weeks homework is linked to our literacy work as the children have been asked to keep a food diary for Saturday, Sunday & Monday.
Finally.... We are sending the children to space! Or at least training them (in PE) to be as fit as astronauts. Testing their strength, balance, flexibility, speed and reactions.

Overview & skipping

Another week has flown by in Gascoigne class and the children have been incredibly busy.

In class we have looked at the human digestive system in science, picking up lots of challenging and interesting vocabulary whilst also discussing healthy eating.

In maths the children have started working with fractions, firstly with equivalent fractions then moving onto comparing different fractions.

Finally, the y4 children had the opportunity to take part in a skipping skills workshop this afternoon in preparation for a trust wide festival later in the year. They were shown some basic skills and moves today before Leanne returns later this term to put together a 'skip-dance' with them.

Welcome back

Welcome back after the holidays, I hope everyone had an enjoyable and refreshing Christmas?
Thank you to everyone for the lovely Christmas cards, gifts and wishes.

The children had a fantastic first week back last week, showing excellent focus and effort towards their work. They were a real credit to themselves to return after the holidays and produce such good quality work.

You should have received classroom connections last week which gives an idea of the things we will be covering in class this term. In addition to daily literacy & maths our key focus will be science which is based on the topics of 'Living Things and their Habitats' & 'Animals including Humans'.

Many thanks
Mr Riley
